The MacTCP Netswitch software is contained on the ND Mac Server in the OUC Services zone. For instruction accessing this server, see Appendix A.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
Instructions for System 6.0.x users
1. Find the “MacTCP Netswitch” folder and open it.
2. Drag the contents of the Netswitch folder (not the Netswitch folder itself) into your System Folder.
3. Open the System Folder, locate the “MacTCP Prep” file and rename it “MacTCP Prep-Network” (the dash is a minus sign, with no spaces around it). Note: This assumes that your MacTCP software is properly configured for network usage. If you have any questions about this contact your network administrator.
4. Drag the “MacTCP Prep-Network” file into the “MacTCP Prep Files” folder.
5. Restart your Macintosh. If you have trouble with any TCP/IP applications like Eudora, Gopher, Newswatcher, Telnet, or Fetch, contact your network administrator.
Instructions for System 7.x users
1. Find the “MacTCP Netswitch” folder and open it.
2. Drag the contents of the Netswitch folder onto the icon of your System Folder (not into the System Folder window). A dialog box will ask you if you want to put some of the items in a special place in the System Folder; click “OK”—when it’s finished, your Macintosh will say something like, “One item was placed into the System folder, one item was placed into the Extensions folder.” Click OK.
3. Open your System Folder, locate the “MacTCP Prep Files” folder and drag it into the Preferences folder.
4. Open the Preferences folder and locate the “MacTCP Prep” file. Rename it “MacTCP Prep-Network” (the dash is a minus sign, with no spaces around it). Note: This assumes that your MacTCP software is properly configured for network usage. If you have any questions about this contact your network administrator.
5. Now find the “MacTCP Prep Files” folder and drop this file into it.
6. Restart your Macintosh. If you have trouble with any TCP/IP applications like Eudora, Gopher, Newswatcher, Telnet, or Fetch, contact your network administrator.
